(en) Based on the real-life experiences of Mende Nazer,the story unfolds as twelve-year-old Malia,daughter of champion wrestler Bah,is abducted from her Sudanese village in the Nubar Mountains by pro-government Arab militia and sold into slavery to a woman in Khartoum,who beats her for touching her daughter. After six years she is sent to London,where her name is changed,but her miserable life of servitude continues. Her passport is taken and she is told that her father will die if she goes to the authorities. Fortunately she meets a sympathetic person who seems to offer her the hope of escape and reunion with Bah,back in Sudan. For all the film's optimism an end title states that there are around 5,000 'slave' workers currently in Britain.

(en) Bringing Down A Dictator (56 min) documents the spectacular defeat of Slobodan Milosevic in October, 2000, not by force of arms, as many had predicted, but by an ingenious nonviolent strategy of honest elections and massive civil disobedience. Milosevic was strengthened by patriotic fervor when NATO bombed Yugoslavia in early 1999, but a few months later, a student movement named Otpor! (“Resistance” in Serbian) launched a surprising offensive. Audaciously demanding the removal of Milosevic, they recruited where discontent was strongest, in the Serbian heartland. Their weapons were rock concerts and ridicule, the internet and email, spray-painted slogans and a willingness to be arrested. Otpor students became the shock troops in an army of human rights, pro-democracy, anti-war, women’s groups, and opposition political parties. Their slogan: "He’s Finished!" Trained in nonviolent action and partially financed by the US and Western Europe, they forged a unified political opposition, fought to stop vote fraud, and systematically undermined police and army loyalty. When Milosevic refused to accept defeat at the polls, the opposition called a general strike. As normal life ground to a halt, Serbs by the hundreds of thousands poured into the capital on October 5 to seize the Federal Parliament in a dramatic triumph for democracy. Narrated by Martin Sheen, this program aired on national PBS in 2002, and was honored with a George Foster Peabody award.

Even though We Women Warriors bears witness to human rights abuses; the film gives a voice to these women who never lose hope, courage or faith. Despite her life being threatened after denouncing a massacre in her village, Doris does not abandon her tribal post. Once Ludis is freed she is able to move onward with her family, coping and healing after systematic violence swept through her region. Flor and her people put Colombia's constitutional indigenous autonomy into practice and strive to create a territory free of armed fighters.
In their recent report, "Sweet Words, Air of Life", the National Indigenous Organization of Colombia (ONIC) notes that all 102 distinct Indigenous Peoples in Colombia "are at risk of disappearing" because of the ongoing conflict between Colombia's armed forces and paramilitary groups like the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia (FARC).
32 of these people are a particular concern, says ONIC, "due to the fact that they have a population of less than 500 people, the majority concentrated in the regions of Amazonía and Orinoquía. Of these 32 peoples, 18 have a population of less than 200 people, and 10 are composed of less than 100 individuals."
Within this context, on January 26, 2009, the Constitutional Court of Colombia issued a Decree on behalf of the indigenous peoples, in which it was concluded that the indigenous peoples "are in danger of becoming physically and culturally extinct." The decree ordered the national government to implement a Program that guarantees the Human Rights for all the Indigenous Peoples.
To date, the government has failed to create such a program.

The deforestation of Guerrero's Petatlán and Coyuca de Catalán mountain ranges dates back to the 1950's. In the 1970's, under then-governor Ruben Figueroa Figueroa logging increased, accompanied by militarization and repression of Guerrero's rural communities. In 1994, with the signing of NAFTA, the transnational Boise Cascade Corporation began what resulted in the exploitation of thousands of kilometers of virgin forests, leaving in its wake deserts.
Defending the Forests is the story of the Organization of the Campesino Environmentalists (OCE) created in 1998, and their success in halting Boise Cascade's exploitation of their forests. The video describes, through the members of the O.C.E., the Mexican government's campaign to destroy the O.C.E. with the arrest and torture by the Mexican Military of O.C.E. co-founders Rodolfo Montiel and Teodoro Cabrera. Both were recently sentenced to prison terms of seven and 10 years on false charges of weapons and drug trafficking for their courageous activism in defense of the forests.

(sk/cz) V průběhu španělské občanské války přišlo o život přes milion lidí. Dva miliony pak skončily ve vězení a půl milionu Španělů odešlo z vlasti pryč. I v takovém prostředí ale mohla existovat láska. Justo Calderón byl idealistický republikánský právník, který bojoval proti Francovu režimu skrze vlny nezávislého rádia. Byl hlasem revoluce a říkal vše, na co se jiní ani neodvážili pomyslet. A byť s jeho aktivitami nesouhlasila, z domova jej podporovala jeho milující manželka Manuela. Stavět se do cesty diktátorům se ale jen málokdy vyplácí a vendeta generála Franca na sebe nenechala dlouho čekat. Přicházejí vojáci, zatýkají Justa, odvádějí ho kdovíkam a Manuela tomu může jen přihlížet. Zůstává sama s dětmi, bez jakýchkoli prostředků, s cejchem ženy anarchisty. Přesto se ale nevzdává. A zatímco roky plynou, věnuje veškerou energii výchově potomků a hledání milovaného muže. Možná se nikdy nechtěla zaplést s politikou, ale prožitá příkoří z ní nakonec vychovala bojovnici. V hlavních rolích expresivního koprodukčního válečného dramatu, oceněném na filmovém festivalu v Mnichově, přicházejí María Valverdeová a Juan Diego Botto.

Synopsis: This big-budget Spanish drama pays tribute to the courageous women who sacrificed their lives during the Spanish Civil War in 1936. Maria's peaceful life as a nun is shattered when revolutionary anarchists force her and her sisters to flee their convent sanctuary. Maria ends up hiding in a brothel where she meets the good-hearted whore Charo. Their peace is in turn destroyed by the sudden arrival of Pilar, a passionate, idealistic member of the Free Women organization. Her fiery speeches and strong arm tactics compel the hookers and Maria to join their fight. A handsome ex-priest also joins them as they fight with the anarchists in Zaragoza. Following a small victory, the formerly trench-bound, battle-weary women celebrate, but then Maria finds herself faced with the destruction and death that goes with war. Later the former priest informs the women that they will not be allowed to fight upon the front lines and the women are left with broken ideals and angry hearts that lead them into one last, violent battle.

Ty, jež sympatizují s fašismem začnou popravovat. Jedna z hlavních hrdinek tohoto filmu je jeptiška a protože agrese ze strany milice je z jejího pohledu nečitelná, uprchne. Ukryje se mezi prostitutkami, kde přijdou agitovat Mujeres Libres. Po krátkém přesvědčení je donucena s nimi odejít. Avšak postupně zahoří sympatiemi k revoluci. Pak sledujeme odchod hrdinek na frontu a sledujeme všechen ten hnus, který tam probíhal. Revoluce není žádná romantika. (en) One night at a bar, an old friend tells director Ari about a recurring nightmare in which he is chased by 26 vicious dogs. Every night, the same number of beasts. The two men conclude that there's a connection to their Israeli Army mission in the first Lebanon War of the early eighties. Ari is surprised that he can't remember a thing anymore about that period of his life. Intrigued by this riddle, he decides to meet and interview old friends and comrades around the world. He needs to discover the truth about that time and about himself. As Ari delves deeper and deeper into the mystery, his memory begins to creep up in surreal images.
