(es) El Ocaso del Miedo, un cortometraje documental que presenta una secuencia viva que retrata las calles de Santiago en el contexto de las movilizaciones estudiantiles por la educación gratuita, siendo un testimonio audiovisual del enfrentamiento entre los manifestantes y el fuerte estado policial.

El estilo del video se enmarca dentro del plano secuencia sin comentario, invisibilizando el montaje y permitiendo al expectador ser parte de un viaje por las calles que fueron escenario de la protesta social.

El cortometraje es dedicado a Manuel Gutiérrez, quien fue asesinado por la policia en la madrugada del 26 de Agosto, según el testimonio de quienes le acompañaban.

(en) The Twilight of Fear, a short documentary that presents a vivid sequence depicting the streets of Santiago in the context of student demonstrations for free education, with an audiovisual testimony of confrontation between the demonstrators and the strong police state.

The style is part of the video sequence shot without comment, obscuring the assembly and allowing the viewer to be part of a journey through the streets that were the scene of social protest.

The film is dedicated to Manuel Gutierrez, who was killed by police at dawn on August 26, according to the testimony of those who accompanied him.

Štýl je súčasťou videosekvencie snímok bez komentára, zatemňovat zhromaždenie a umožňuje divákovi, aby sa časť cesty po uliciach, ktoré boli dejiskom sociálneho protestu.

Doce activistas defensores de los derechos animales han sido detenidos esta mañana por la Guardia Civil, en una redada ordenada por el Juzgado de Instrucción de Santiago de Compostela. Las detenciones y los registros de los domicilios de los activistas de las organizaciones Igualdad Animal y Equanimal, se han practicado en las provincias de Madrid, Asturias, Vizcaya y Galicia, siendo los detenidos trasladados a los juzgados de Santiago de Compostela, bajo acusaciones de delitos contra el medio ambiente, desorden público y asociación ilícita.

El origen de las investigaciones, parece encontrarse, en la suelta presuntamente intencionada de 20.000 visones de la granja Visones Bermúdez, situada en Santiago de Compostela, ocurrida en noviembre de 2007, por cuanto que supondría un daño al medio ambiente.

Ambas organizaciones vienen denunciando públicamente las atrocidades, la privación de libertad y las matanzas de más de 300.000 visones cada año, por parte de la industria peletera Española. Así pues, estas detenciones suponen un claro ataque de esta industria, contra los defensores de los animales, por poner de relieve los horrores de una práctica, en la que están implícitos los gaseamientos, mutilaciones o el sufrimiento originado por la falta de libertad de los visones en las granjas peleteras.

Estas dos organizaciones, definimos nuestro activismo como pacífico, somos contrarios a cualquier tipo de violencia, dedicamos nuestros esfuerzos a la concienciación por los Derechos Animales, informando a la sociedad de las consecuencias del consumo de productos de origen animal y promoviendo alternativas para ello. Por otro lado, aunque nos declaramos al margen de estas sueltas de visones, no condenamos este tipo de actos, en tanto en cuanto, defendemos los intereses de todos los animales sean de la especie que sean, y porque ninguno de los visones utilizados en la peletería merece el destino de vivir y morir en las granjas de este país.

Como no tienen a nadie para imputar por las liberaciones de visones, han detenido a varios miembros de Equanimal y de Igualdad Animal en un intento de criminalizar el movimiento de derechos animales, como sucede en otros países europeos. Los lobbies de explotación animal y las poderosas multinacionales quieren frenar el movimiento animalista y a España está llegando ahora la represión.

Equanimal e Igualdad Animal convocamos dos ruedas de prensa, para la lectura de un comunicado en repulsa por estas injustas detenciones de los doce activistas de ambas organizaciones, a las 20:00 horas de hoy miércoles, día de las detenciones, a las puertas de las Delegaciones del Gobierno de Madrid, en la C/ Miguel Ángel, 25 (Metro: Gregorio Marañón), y en Barcelona, en Avinguda Marquès de L’Argentera 2-4 (Metro Jaume I).

Twelve animal rights activists were arrested on Wednesday 22 June by the Spanish police, in a series of raids sanctioned by the judge from the Magistrate’s court, Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain. Arrests and house searches of activists from the organisations Igualdad Animal/Animal Equality and Equanimal took place in the regions of Madrid, Asturias, Vizcaya and Galicia. The detained activists were then taken to Santiago de Compostela court, where they were accused of offences against the environment, public disorder, and conspiracy.

The origin of the investigations appears to be centred on the seemingly intentional release of 20,000 minks from the farm Visones Bermúdez, located in Santiago de Compostela, in November 2007, which would indicate the supposed damage to the environment. Both organisations deny having any involvement in the action.

Both organisations have publicly condemned the deprivation of freedom, torture and massacre of more than 300,000 minks every year by the Spanish fur trade.

Animal Equality and Equanimal have both been conducting extensive undercover investigations into Spanish mink farms over the last few years and have mounted successful high-profile campaigns against the use of fur and of animals as clothing.

These arrests therefore represent a clear attack by the fur industry against animal activists for highlighting the horrors of a practice in which the gassings, mutilations and captivity-induced suffering of mink on fur farms are inherent and widespread.

These two organisations, which define their activism as being non-violent, dedicate their efforts to raising public awareness of animal rights, by informing society of the consequences of the consumption of animal products and the promotion of alternatives. Even though the organisations were not involved in the mink liberations, neither condemns these types of actions however, as they defend the interests of all animals regardless of species, as none of the minks exploited by the fur industry deserves to live and die on a Spanish fur farm.

Due to the fact that the authorities have no-one to hold responsible for the mink liberations, the various members of Equanimal and Igualdad Animal / Animal Equality have been arrested in an attempt to criminalise the animal rights movement in Spain, as has already happened in other European countries. The animal exploitation lobbies and powerful multinationals wish to put the brakes on the animal rights movement in Spain, and now we are seeing the arrival of repression.

Please consider organising a demonstration in support of these activists in front of Spanish embassies or in city centres on Friday 24 June.

(en) Animal Equality activists have rescued five hens from a farm containing 160,000 animals on Monday 16 September.

After entering one of the sheds via an unlocked door and without having to use any type of force, the activists removed five hens, who were later examined by a vet. One of them had to be operated on to remove a huge mass from her head resulting from an old eye infection. Another hen is currently receiving veterinary treatment but is out of danger.

These animals were being subjected to a process called a forced molt, in which through severe food restriction - including going for days without eating - and in total darkness, their bodies are shocked into a new cycle of egg-laying.

These one-and-a-half-year-old animals have spent the last eleven months trapped behind bars without being able to see the sun. They are suffering from various nutritional deficiencies and some of them also have liver damage due to the high protein content of their food which is given in order to increase the weight of their eggs.

The Animal Equality Open Rescue Team has recorded these images because we believe it is essential that society has access to what happens inside places like these so they have the ability to think about how the animals must feel.

This rescue was carried out on a farm with battery cages similar to the 'enriched cages' which will obligatory from 2012 onwards throughout the European Union. Nevertheless, on 'free-range' farms, hens are still deprived of their freedom and used as mere resources for human benefit, and finally all of them are sent to the slaughterhouse at a fraction of their natural lifespan.

In Spain, more than 47 million hens are victims of this system which exists to satisfy the demand for eggs. Eggs that we do not even need. In the UK the figure is 32 million. The same number of male chicks - their brothers - are also victims of this consumption. Often forgotten they do not even register in official statistics. On every type of farm, male chicks are killed, either ground up alive or gassed, because they do not lay eggs and they are not profitable for any other purpose.

Animal Equality rescues animals not only to help these particular individuals, but also to get society to reflect and stop seeing the other animals with which we share the planet as being at our disposal, as resources we can make a profit from.

As in all open rescues we carry out, we always come away filled with a sensation of sadness and impotence when we have to close the door and leave behind the thousands of other animals who will suffer their whole lives only to end up with their throats slit in a slaughterhouse.

We are simply unable to rescue all the animals on farms, in slaughterhouses, or laboratories. Ending this ongoing animal holocaust depends on each one of us, it depends on removing our financial support from all of it, in all its forms.

Living as vegans means we free those animals who were going to be forced to suffer and die for our demands, and builds a base of support for a world that is more equal for all, regardless of the species we belong to.

Dozens of Greek Migrants Hospitalized During 37 Days of Hunger Strike

Last night, March 1, at least 78 immigrants hunger strikers were in hospitals in Athens and Thessaloniki. The medical team responsible to support the hunger strikers decided the transfer to the hospitals because the hunger strikers were suffering from:
a) imminent acute renal failure (that is reversible if treated promptly),
b) severe dehydration with electrolyte deficiencies,
c) cardiac arrhythmias,
d) several other medical problems.
In several hospitals police “visited” the doctors and asked the Ids and data about the medical condition of the hunger strikers. When doctors refused to give any information about their patients, police have written down the names of the doctors. Such incidents in hospitals were taking place in Greece only during the period of the dictatorship.
Yesterday morning, riot police attempted to prevent a press conference in front of the parliament. Several trade unionists, intellectuals, artists and antiracist activists (among them the writer Vassilis Alexakis) were hit and pushed violently by the policemen. ( Photo ).
300 undocumented immigrants are now on the 37 day of hunger strike demanding to get papers.

Na blokádě nebude k dispozici žádná pořadatelská služba, protože se jedná o takový druh akce, který by šel nejlépe popsat slovy „občanská neposlušnost". Domluvte se proto se svými přáteli a doražte společně v malých či větších skupinách. Promluvte si dopředu o způsobu, jakým chcete demonstraci neonacistů blokovat a do jaké míry jste ochotni nerespektovat příkaz policie k vyklizení prostoru. Rozdíl taktik není překážkou jednoty v cíli: neumožnit neonacistům hlásat a praktikovat nenávist. Blokáda v sedě, živý řetěz nebo barikáda se navzájem nevylučují, ale podporují. Držme se pouze jednoho pravidla: nekritizujme akce jiných antifašistických skupin, ať už je jejich taktika jakákoliv. Zůstaňme jednotní.

Brown is quite obviously in awe of Dawkins, a brilliant scientist and communicator and treats him with very open honesty about the subject (something derrenologists will know is VERY rare).

Cold reading is a series of techniques used by mentalists, illusionists, fortune tellers, psychics, mediums and con artists to determine or express details about another person, often in order to convince them that the reader knows much more about a subject than they actually do.
Without prior knowledge of a person, a practiced cold reader can still quickly obtain a great deal of information about the subject by analyzing the person\’s body language, age, clothing or fashion, hairstyle, gender, sexual orientation, religion, race or ethnicity, level of education, manner of speech, place of origin, etc.
Cold readers commonly employ high probability guesses about the subject, quickly picking up on signals from their subjects as to whether their guesses are in the right direction or not, and then emphasizing and reinforcing any chance connections the subjects acknowledge while quickly moving on from missed guesses.
