(sk) Írsko, 60-te roky minulého storočia. Dievčatá a ženy, ktoré viedli ľahký život, stali sa obeťami znásilnenia, alebo sú slobodnými matkami, odvádzajú do kláštora . Žiadna z nich však netuší, čo ju čaká za múrmi, kde si má odpykať trest. Tvrdá práca je asi to najmenšie zlo. Musia čeliť despotickému a ponižujúcemu zachádzaniu rádových sestier a najmä matky predstavenej, ktorá tvrdí, že robí všetko pre ich dobro a odvoláva sa na vôľu božiu. Režisér Peter Mullan pozbieral materiál na svoj film v ešte donedávna existujúcich Írskych polepšovniach a sám bol šokovaný z krutých výchovných praktík, o ktorých verejnosť nemala ani tušenia.
