(en) Forrest Taft is an environmental agent who works for the Aegis Oil Company in Alaska. Aegis Oil's corrupt CEO, Michael Jennings, is the kind of person who doesn't care whether or not oil spills into the ocean or onto the land, just as long as it's making money for him. He even makes commercials that make him look like he cares about the environment. Jennings is almost finished with building his new state-of-the art oil rig: AEGIS-1. The problem is that if he doesn't finish building the rig in thirteen days, the land rights will be returned to the Eskimos and the Alaskan government. When Jennings finds out that Taft's best friend Hugh Palmer has a computer disk that contains information about defective equipment on AEGIS-1, he sends out his goons to murder Palmer. When Taft tries to interfere, Jennings tries to kill Taft. But an Eskimo woman named Masu, who introduces Taft to her father Silook, the chief of her tribe, rescues Taft. Parmesan Cones with White Bean Mousse

For the last few weeks I've been on the hunt for appetizers unlike the usual ones I normally make, scouring through different cookbooks trying to find something different and elegant looking. Well I found what I was looking for, not only do these look good they taste even better!
Savory cones made of coarsely grated fresh Parmesan cheese that is specked with black pepper and filled with a mousse made of white bean, basil pesto, fresh lemon juice and olive oil.

I was going to make these for my son and DIL's upcoming baby shower but opted not to, because they're a little too time consuming for a large crowd, but for a smaller and more intimate dinner party these would be fantastic! Just remember to fill them right before eating so the cone stays nice and crispy.

Heres what you do:

Make a paper cone out of a 3 1/2" circle, sturdy paper, tape it and set aside.
Heat oven to 375F and on parchment paper trace 3 1/2" circles 3" apart. Have 2 baking sheets ready to go.
Grate about 3/4 cup of cheese on a metal grater, please do not use powdery fake cheese, it won't work!
Combine cheese and pepper together and spread a heaping tablespoon of cheese onto each circle, bake for about 5 minutes till melted and golden.
Remove from oven and after 1 minute gently remove with a thin metal spatula and shape it over your paper cone. Let them cool before removing. Repeat process. This recipe makes 10 cones.

White Bean Mousse

1 can of rinsed and drained white beans.
Basil pesto, (a couple of teaspoons). Taste it for flavor but be careful not to use too much you might turn the white bean color green.
A good squeeze of fresh lemon juice.

Put this all in a food processor and process until smooth and creamy by drizzling in some good olive oil.
Spoon mousse into a ziplock bag and snip off a corner and pipe right into the cone, garnish with basil and serve immediately. Cones can be made ahead. Place in a tin with wax paper until ready to fill.

Summer Carnival is a yearly 3-day Caribbean Carnival in the city centre of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Summer Carnival, similar to the carnival in Rio, is a huge event where at least 900.000 visitors come from all over Europe to dance to the latin music and look at the colourful and amazing costumes and floats in the big street parade. Black travel experiences in Europe

How do black people experience travelling in Europe? Do they feel stared at, feel welcome, or is it a bit of both. And in which Western European countries do they feel most comfortable?

To find out I sampled the experiences (2008 and 2009) from Rick Steves’s Minority Travelers Forum. Most experiences are from African-Americans who visited Europe.

I could have asked photographer and travel writer Lola Akinmade about her travel experience, but on her blog are all the answers. In pictures and in stories. See Lola's blog Geotraveler's Niche. So I stayed on Steves's forum.

To get a big picture of all the experiences I placed the reactions in the categories negative, neutral and positive. Negative means when someone felt being treated negatively. Neutral means, no problems. Positive speaks for itself.

1. In England or the UK – Most travellers had a great time. No stares, hardly any discrimination. With 2 negative and 9 positive reactions the absolute winner.

2. Germany – Second best with 1 negative reaction, 1 neutral and 3 positive reactions.

3. The Netherlands – One traveller felt very race conscious in the Netherlands. With 2 negative reactions, 1 neutral and 3 positive reactions third place.

4. France - Very mixed responses. Most black travellers liked it, but the French language barrier remained. Most Americans had neutral feelings about France, but over all they weren’t negative. With 2 negative reactions, 7 neutral and 4 positive reactions fourth place.

5. Italy – Here things started to get dramatically negative. Some loved Italy, others were less positive. Some reported being stared at. To put it in perspective, 4negative reactions, 2 neutral and 3 positive. Fifth place

6. Spain – This country is considered the worst Western European travel destination by most African-Americans on the forum. Most travellers see Spain as a very racist country. However one traveller was aware of racial climate in Spain, but still went. He had a great time in Spain. With 6 negative reactions, 2 neutral and 3 positive reactions it’s a country that leaves a lot of black travellers with some bad memories, but with good ones as well.

Countries as Belgium, Zweden, Austria, Creece and Ireland I didn't include because there were just one or two reactions.

Of course you can’t get a good impression if you have nine responses or less of each country. And it also depends where travellers had their experiences: big city or country side.

Minority
Lola Akinmade is using her blackness to experience traveling to the max. In an interview she explained why she loves traveling as a minority. "Being able to seamlessly move because people automatically assume I’m a local impoverished immigrant allows me to observe and immerse without sticking out like a sore thumb in some places. I get to experience the true attitudes of locals towards others very different from them – both great and bad.

I have experienced everything from utmost rejection to gawks of fascination that a lot of bright-eyed backpackers could never endure. It is at the low times I question the purpose of travel and then Mark Twain’s quote always comes to mind….“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness."…… Mark Twain."

First black Miss England sparks controversy

Grilled Pizza and a Garden Salad

Making pizza on the grill has become a summertime favorite for us. The dough cooks up in a matter of minutes, and it always creates a nice crisp crust. Whether you have a good source for buying fresh pizza dough or you make your own, if you haven't tried this yet put it high on your list!

I like to roll my dough out a little, but when you put it on the grill it changes it's shape, but that's the beauty of it! Make sure your grill is nice and hot. Brush the top with olive oil and put that side down on your hot grill. Brush the raw side with olive oil and then flip the dough when you see grill marks underneath.

Have all your ingredients ready because now you will be adding them to the first cooked side, it grills up very fast so have things precooked, mostly light and fresh ingredients work best. I have tried so many combinations, as you know when making pizza the possibilities are endless!

For this pizza I tried something different. Pancetta with caramelized red onions, creamy bocconcini, fresh tomatoes and roasted artichoke hearts, a great combination that I would do again. Here's a couple of my other favorites.

This is great for a leisurely weekend dinner while you're sitting outside enjoying the weather, pour yourself some wine, make a salad, and you have a great meal!

Speaking of salad! This all came from my garden, doesn't it look so nice and fresh? I can't wait to dress it up with my best olive oil and favorite vinegar.

Hlasné trúby a byrokrati nadnárodných kapitalistických korporacií budú pri priležitosti Výročného stretnutia rád guvernérov Svetovej banky a Medzinárodneho menového fondu opäť prijímať rozhodnutia o živote a smrti miliárd ľudí – tentokrát 6-7 októbra 2009 v tureckom Istanbule.

Niet pochýb o tom, že pojde o ďalšie stretnutie určené poisťovaniu výhod vládnucich kapitalistov. Tu budú prediskutovávat svoje ekonomicke balíčky, svoju politiku obnovy a úsporných opatrení, ktoré do budúcnosti predstavujú len ďalšie oko nadpojené na reťaz vykorisťovania chudobných a planéty, ktorú obývame.

Argentínske, jamajské, nigerijské, kenské a dalšie skúsenosti z prvej ruky už dávno preukázali, že opatrenia SB a MMF neprinášaju nič len pravé vykorisťovanie a núdzu. MMF a SB, vedúci architekti globálneho kapitalizmu, predstavujú hlavný nástroj vytláčania chudobných z ich habitatov urbanistickou politikou výstavby pre bohatých, komercializácie a monopolizácie vodných zdrojov ich predajom medzinarodným korporáciam, obetúvania miestnych farmárov nadnárodným kapitalistickým podnikom s ich neoliberálnymi poľnohospodárskymi pravidlami, a posilňovania okov robotníkov zavádzaním novej pracovno-právnej legislatívy.

V tieto dni sa ocitneme tvárou v tvár 13000 zločincom a zrejme ešte početnejším ozbrojeným zložkám povolaným na ich ochranu. Akiste to budú dni pripomínajuce peklo na Zemi. Policajné prehliadky, kontroly dokladov, blokovanie ulíc, oplocovanie, a tak ďalej.

(de) Widerstandstage gegen IWF und Weltbank

Einladung zu den Widerstandsfestivitäten (1.-8. Oktober 2009)

Von 6. bis 7. Oktober 2009 werden sich in Istanbul zahlreiche Bürokrat_innen und Handelsvertreter_innen nationaler kapitalistischer Unternehmen und Staaten einfinden, um beim jährlichen Treffen von IWF (Internationaler Währungsfonds) und Weltbank Entscheidungen zu fällen, die für das Leben von Milliarden von Menschen negative Folgen mit sich ziehen werden.

Ein weiteres Gipfeltreffen, das die Zukunft von Milliarden von Menschen, die von Armut betroffen sind, und des Planeten, auf dem wir leben, entscheidend mitbestimmt, wo nichts anderes besprochen wird, als Bedingungen zur strukturellen Anpassung, Sparpakete und deren Neugestaltung; Wirtschaftspakete, die zu nichts anderem dienen, als einem weiteren Volk die Ketten der Ausbeutung anzulegen, und das darauf abzielt, den dadurch zustande kommenden finanziellen Nutzen der herrschenden Kapitalist_innenklasse zu sichern.

Die langjährige Praxis zeigt deutlich, dass die Politik von IWF und Weltbank der Bevölkerung nichts, als Armut und Ausbeutung bringt und bringen kann (a Argentinien, Jamaika, Ecuador, Nigeria, Kenia usw.). IWF und Weltbank, als die maßgeblichen Wegbereiter_innen für die Globalisierung des Kapitalismus, sind Instrumente, die allen voran dafür verantwortlich sind, dass durch soziale Umstrukturierungspolitik in den Städten (Gentrifizierung) die sozial schwache Bevölkerungsschicht aus ihren Wohn- und Lebensräumen verbannt wird, dass durch die Privatisierung von Wasser – des grundlegenden Elements des Lebens -, dieses quasi zu einer Hypothek, einem Spielball und Spekulationsobjekt von einer Handvoll Firmen wird dass durch die verfolgte Agrarpolitik lokale Produzent_innen globalen kapitalistischen Arbeitgeber_innen ausgeliefert sind und dass durch neue arbeitsrechtliche Normen weitere Völker als Arbeiter_innen ausgebeutet werden können.

13.000 dieser Verbrecher_innen und eine noch höhere Anzahl an Sicherheitskräften, die zum Schutz jener im Einsatz sind, werden sich in dieser Zeit unter uns befinden. Höchstwahrscheinlich werden sie diese Tage für uns zum Albtraum machen! Mit Durchsuchungen, Identitätskontrollen, Straßensperren, Barrikaden usw. wird gerechnet.

Sei dabei, wenn wir alle gemeinsam mit unseren Festivitäten ihr Zusammentreffen zum Albtraum machen!

Wir wollen für die Zeit von 1. bis 8. Oktober 2009 verschiedene Kundgebungen, Diskussionen, Filmvorführungen, Ausstellungen, Workshops und Konzerte gegen IWF und Weltbank organisieren. Für die Unterkunft von Teilnehmer_innen aus anderen Ländern und Städten wird gesorgt. МВФ и СБ, които са водещите архитекти на глобализма и капитализма, са основните отговорни фактори за пропъждането на бедните хора от жилищата им и окупирането на жизнено важни ресурси като водата и земята от няколко компании, за заключването на дребните производители към глобални корпоративни собственици в нови производствени вериги.
13.000 куки и много други въоръжени сили, на които им е платено да ги защитават ще ходят сред нас тезни дни. Вероятно ще ни покажат ада. Ловувайки, издирвайки всеки от нас, блокирайки пътищата, спирайки всеки...

Encore un sommet fait par les capitalistes dominant pour protéger leurs intérets; des paquets économiques qui ne serviront qu'ajouter une maille a la chaine d'exploitations pour des billions de pauvres et pour le futur de la planete. Des conditions d'accords structuraux, des décisions politiques pour serré la ceinture et de nouveaux structuralisations vont etre discutées.
Toutes les expériences vécues, comme l'Argentine, Jamaique, Équateur etc. nous ont montré que les politiques de FMI et de la Banque Mondiale sont des dispositifs coupables des politiques d'embourgeoisements et d'expulsions des pauvres de leurs habitats, la privatisation des sources d'eaux qui sont essentiel pour notre existence, des politiques d'agricultures qui condamnent les producteurs locales a des patrons capitalistes mondiaux.

Αντιπρόσωποι και γραφειοκράτες των πολυεθνικών καπιταλιστικών εταιρειών θα είναι στην Ιστανμπούλ στις 6 και 7 του Οκτώβρη για την ετήσια συνάντηση της Παγκόσμιας Τράπεζας και του Διεθνούς Νομισματικού Ταμείου, όπου θα πάρουν αποφάσεις για να μαυρίσουν τις ζωές δισεκατομμυρίων ανθρώπων. Ακόμα μια συνάντηση κορυφής για την εξοικονόμηση κερδών από τους καπιταλιστές κυρίαρχους, όπου τα οικονομικά πακέτα τα οποία δεν είναι παρά άχρηστα και το μόνο που κάνουν, είναι να προσθέτουν ακόμα έναν κρίκο στην αλυσίδα εκμετάλλευσης για δισεκατομμύρια φτωχούς και για το μέλλον του πλανήτη που ζούμε όπου πολιτικές προτάσεις ανοικοδόμησης και λιτότητας με τις αναγκαίες συστηματικές αλλαγές θα συζητηθούν…
Οι εμπειρίες της αληθινής ζωής έχουν αποδείξει ότι η πολιτική που εφαρμόζει η Παγκόσμια Τράπεζα και το ΔΝΤ δεν έχει κανένα άλλο όφελος παρά τη λιτότητα και την ένδεια και μόνο (Αργεντινή, Τζαμάικα, Νιγηρία, Κένυα κτλ). Το ΔΝΤ και η Παγκόσμια Τράπεζα ,που είναι οι κύριοι αρχιτέκτονες της παγκοσμιοποίησης και του καπιταλισμού, είναι τα βασικά υπεύθυνα όργανα για την εξορία των φτωχών ανθρώπων από τις πατρίδες τους και τις κατοικίες τους μέσω της βίαιης αστικοποίησης, έχοντας υποθηκευμένο το νερό- το οποίο είναι η βασική ανάγκη για τη ζωή- από λίγες εταιρείες, παγιδεύοντας τους τοπικούς παραγωγούς στους παγκόσμιους καπιταλιστικούς πατρόνες μέσω των αγροτικών πολιτικών, προσθέτοντας έτσι νέους κρίκους στις αλυσίδες των εργατών από τους νέους εργασιακούς νόμους.
13.000 «ληστές» και ακόμα περισσότερες ένοπλες δυνάμεις, οι οποίες διατάσσονται να τους προστατεύουν, θα περπατάνε ανάμεσά μας αυτές τις μέρες. Πιθανότατα, θα μας δείξουν πώς είναι η κόλαση. Κυνηγώντας, παρακολουθώντας, οριοθετώντας τους δρόμους, φράζοντας, κτλ…
Ελάτε, ας τους δείξουμε πώς είναι η κόλαση αυτές τις μέρες. Η φωτιά της γιορτής μας θα γίνει ο εφιάλτης τους!
Σκοπεύουμε να οργανώσουμε μερικές συναυλίες, εργαστήρια, εκθέσεις, προβολές ταινιών, συζητήσεις και δραστηριότητες ενάντια στο ΔΝΤ και την Παγκόσμια Τράπεζα από τις 1 ως τις 8 Οκτωβρίου. Οι στεγαστικές ανάγκες για αυτούς που θα έρθουν από άλλες πόλεις και χώρες θα καλυφθούν. Όσοι επιθυμούν να συμμετέχουνε στις ετοιμασίες, στις δραστηριότητες και στην οργάνωση μπορούν να επικοινωνήσουν μαζί μας μέσω των παρακάτω στοιχείων. Επίσης, όσοι ενδιαφέρονται να λαμβάνουν πλήρη ενημέρωση με τις προετοιμασίες των δραστηριοτήτων μπορούν να επισκεφτούν την ιστοσελίδα που θα ανανεώνεται τακτικά. Од 6ти до 7ми октомври во Истанбул ќе дојдат претставници/чки и бирократи/ки на мултинационалните капиталистички компании, на годишниот состанок на Светската Банка и ММФ (Меѓународниот Монетарен Фонд), каде ќе одлучуваат како да зацрнат милјарди човечки животи.
Уште една средба на врвот за заштита на интересите на капиталистичките суверени, каде економските пакети немаат друга употреба освен да додадат уште еден прстен на есплоатирачкиот ланец за милјардите сиромашни и за иднината на планетата на која живееме, ќе бидат дискутирани условите за уставно усогласување, реконструкциите и стратегиите на ограничување...
Искуствата во вистинскиот живот (Аргентина, Јамајка, Еквадор, Нигерија, Кенија, итн.) јасно покажуваат дека политиката која ја применуваат Светската банка и ММФ не е од интерес на народот, туку нуди само немаштија и експлоатација, и не постои друг начин. ММФ и Светската банка кои се водечки архитекти на глобализацијата на капитализмот се првите одговорни инструменти за протерување на сиромашните од своите живеалишта и домови преку политиките за урбана трансформација (заради облагородувње), ставање хипотека на водата, која е основна животна потреба, од страна на неколку компании, преку земјоделски политики кои го осудуваат локалниот одгледувач на сметка на глобалните капиталистички патрони, за да додадат нови прстени на ланците луѓе кои работат под новите работни правила.

Jazykové problémy mu pomáhá překonat ovdovělá Zaťatá pěst, kterou jako dítě bílých osadníků Indiáni unesli. Dunbar, přejmenovaný Siouxi Tančí s vlky, začne žít v indiánské osadě. Líbí se mu jejich způsob života, v němž nachází smysl další existence. Když se chystá jeho svatba se Zaťatou pěstí, je Dunbar zajat oddílem kavalerie, který s ním zachází jako se zrádcem. Siouxové ho osvobodí a zabijí většinu vojáků, ale Dunbar raději se Zaťatou pěstí kmen opouští, aby nepřivolal pomstu kavaleristů.

(en) Documentary look at the 1996-97 effort of the dancers and support staff at a San Francisco peep show, The Lusty Lady, to unionize. Angered by arbitrary and race-based wage policies, customers' surreptitious video cameras, and no paid sick days or holidays, the dancers get help from the Service Employees International local and enter protracted bargaining with the union-busting law firm that management hires. We see the women work, sort out their demands, and go through the difficulties of bargaining. The narrator is Julia Query, a dancer and stand-up comedian who is reluctant to tell her mother, a physician who works with prostitutes, that she strips.
