Uranium (1990)
INFO:
Magnus Isacsson, Canada, english, 1990, 48 min.
http://www.nfb.ca/film/Uranium/
(en) This documentary looks at the hazards of uranium mining in Canada. Toxic and radioactive waste pose environmental threats while the traditional economic and spiritual lives of the Aboriginal people who occupy this land have been violated. Given our limited knowledge of the associated risks, this film questions the validity of continuing the mining operations.

Education Not Deportation! No One Is Illegal!

We are a grassroots activist organization. We are not a commercial organization.
(en) A short documentary film produced by No One Is Illegal - Toronto about the struggle for access to education without fear for undocumented students in Toronto and Ontario.
(cz) Mnoho lidí překročilo hranice a checkpointy v naději na lepší život, spravedlnost a důstojnost. Přesto mnoho imigrantů dennodenně čelí vykořisťování, rasismu a zneužívání.
Vzdělání místo deportace je krátký dokument z dílny torontské lokální skupiny kampaně No one is illegal (Žádný člověk není ilegální) o boji za přístup ke vzdělání studentů „bez papírů“ v Torontu a Ontariu.

Olympic dream vs. Vancouver reality
With the close of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, much of the media was quick to declare them a total success. This goes against the mounds of journalism produced before and during the games by the Vancouver Media Co-op, the city’s newly launched independent media center. Believing that their might be more than one answer regarding the success of the games, and one of those should come from the host communities, The Real News spoke to Franklin López, Video Producer with the Co-op, to find out more about the legacy of the 2010 Olympics for the people of Vancouver.

Sochi 2014 Resistance
John Hager and Tamara Barsik from the No Sochi 2014 Committee spoke out against the next winter Olympic Games, to be held in their traditional territory in south west Russia.
Hager and Barsik are members of the Circassian diaspora. Since 1870, nearly all Indigenous Circassian people have been driven out of their lands, and forced to resettle elsewhere. From Jordan to the USA, Circassians have resisted the 2014 Games since the beginning of the bid process.
For Hager and Barsik, the 2014 Games, held on stolen Circassian lands in Sochi, represent the consolidation of Russian rule over their territories

Sportswriter Dave Zirin speaks in Vancouver
Acclaimed Sports Illustrated and The Nation sportswriter Dave Zirin was in Vancouver from Jan 20-21 2010 to speak about activism, sports and the Olympics as part of a series entitled "Politics in the Ring."
Zirin talked about the idea of activist athletes, what they've fought for, and what they've opposed. From feminist uprisings against wearing corsets in tennis, to Muhammad Ali's activist conversion after his Olympic win, Zirin showed that sports has the power to extend beyond just spectacle.
Versed in the history of sports, Zirin was critical of the hypocritical stance the International Olympic Committee has taken on several issues over the past century.

Why We Resist
the 2010 Winter Olympics

Why We Resist
the 2010 Winter Olympics
http://no2010.com/
http://guerrilla-griots.org/
(en) Green Guerrillas met up with Kanahus and Dustin on their TAKE BACK THE LAND tour in 2008... we talked about Indigenous sovereignty, stolen land, and why the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver is a threat to all people and the planet...
No Olympics on Stolen Land
BC remains largely unceded and non-surrendered Indigenous territories. According to Canadian law, BC has neither the legal nor moral right to exist, let alone claim land and govern over Native peoples. Despite this, and a fraudulent treaty process now underway, the government continues to sell, lease and develop Native land for the benefit of corporations, including mining, logging, oil & gas, and ski resorts. Meanwhile, Indigenous peoples suffer the highest rates of poverty, unemployment, imprisonment, police violence, disease, suicides, etc.
Ecological Destruction
Despite claims to be the greenest Olympics ever, and PR statements about sustainability, the 2010 Olympics will be among the most environmentally destructive in history, with tens of thousands of trees cut down & mountainsides blasted for Olympic venues in the Callaghan Valley (near Whistler) & the Sea-to-Sky Highway expansion. In the summer of 2007, a record number of black bears were hit on the Sea-to-Sky Highway, with at least 11 dying (attributed to loss of habitat). Massive amounts of concrete used in construction have also caused millions of Salmon to die in the Fraser River, where tons of gravel are being mined to make concrete.

Tar Wars (2009)

INFO:
BBC Our World, UK, 2009, 21 min.
www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00plh8c
(en) Our World investigates why a small band of Cree Indians in Canada's Alberta Tar Sands are taking on the world's oil companies, and being bankrolled by a high-street business in the UK.
The UK’s Co-Operative Financial Services is assisting Canada’s Beaver Lake Cree Nation in pursuing legal action to stop the development of tar sands in Alberta.
The Cree nation has constitutionally protected rights to the land, and is seeking an injunction against the developments to preserve the area’s ecological integrity, an action which could affect companies including BP, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, Shell, and Total.
(sk) BBC vyšetruje prečo malý kmeň indiánov Cree žijúcich v blízkosti dechtových pieskov (tar sands) v kanadskej Alberte sa stavajú proti veľkým ropných korporáciám a sú finančne podporovaní jednou britskou firmou.
