They have two cabins up about half way, but it is too dangerous to go up there right now to check on them. There is a 15 meter high wall of snow hanging over a cliff that they might have to control.
We saw the news this morning, on TV, RaiR, footage from a helicopter, and could see the two cabins. They are both still there, thank goodness. The avalanche started up higher then the cabins, and slid right past them, leaving a fairly good sized path of nothing.
Here is the news story from Rai, from Saturday. They haven't posted today's story, that shows the helicopter footage, and the cabins. When they do, I will add it. And here is another story:
Here is another one, in the same area, the day before. They actually caught it on video.
Go here to see the photos that Franco shot. My brother in law Riccardo is in the red hat. You get an idea of how big it actually is in photo 2027, and how close it came to the house in 2063. My father in law always parked his car right where that big pile is, when he goes up to the cabins. yipes!
Action, danger!
UPDATE: Here is today's newscast, that shows the two cabins, and the avalanche. The cabins are at the 1:12 mark, and to the left of them is the massive slide. Look how close! (If you right click on the video, you can view it in Real Player, and see it larger)
I added some screen caps from the news, of the cabins and avalanche slide path, as well as some of the cabins, here.
