(en) Patent applications for the "Monsanto Pig" were published in February 2005 at the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in Geneva. A Greenpeace researcher who monitors patent applications, Christoph Then, uncovered the fact that Monsanto is seeking patents not only on methods of breeding, but on actual breeding herds of pigs as well as the offspring that result.

"If these patents are granted, Monsanto can legally prevent breeders and farmers from breeding pigs whose characteristics are described in the patent claims, or force them to pay royalties," says Then. "It's a first step toward the same kind of corporate control of an animal line that Monsanto is aggressively pursuing with various grain and vegetable lines."

The seeds of the world are now owned primarily by one company, Monsanto. Monsanto is aiming to extend its control to animals by patenting and thus privatising gene sequences -- all of which are found naturally.

As a powerful corporate giant attempts to patent living animals, seeds and other forms of life, this film asks what the consequences are for mankind...

(pl) Przedstawiamy korporację Monsanto której „zawdzięczamy” DDT (zakazany Azotox), rakotwórczy Aspartam czy Posilac, (zakazany bydlęcy hormon wzrostu).Stworzyła monopol w rynku nasiennym ,dzięki swoim odmianom GMO które posiadają gen terminatora (nie odradzają się) oraz są uzależnione od herbicydu Monsanto – Roundup.Dzięki posiadaniu patentu na kod genetyczny swoich odmian mogą przejmować całe uprawy który zostały tylko zanieczyszczone ich odmianami. Teraz próbują zrobić to samo ze świniami – zdobyć patent na fragment kodu DNA ich rzekomej odmiany, fragment który jak widać pojawia się w wielu zwykłych świniach. Korporacyjny potwór jakim jest Monsanto chce mieć po prostu patent na całą żywność na świecie, może nawet na wszystkie żywe istoty?
